This route leads you to the most noteworthy streets of the old city and to the most important monuments of the historical center, representing the cultural and aesthetic character of the city of Rethymno.

Starting from the Guora Gate or "Grand Gate" (the main entrance of the city's walls) follow the street "Ethnikis Antistaseos", located at the small market, to arrive to the Temple of St. Francesco, the main temple of the Francescan monastery during the Venetian Period.

On the same area, you can see the impressive gate tower of the "Turkish" school.

A bit further, you will encounter another important city monument, the Mosque of "Gazi Housein" or "Neratzes" (today a conservatory), characterized by the highest minaret in the city. From there, you will cross the plateau of "Titos Petyhakis" and pass by the Rimondi fountain (1627).

Continuing to the street "Paleologos" you will encounter another public building of the 16th century, the city's Loggia. Walking away from Loggia you will cross the street "Nearhou" and end up at the beautiful Venetian port and its lighthouse. The old customs station is also located in the Venetian port, along with other Venetian style buildings.
