The "Turkish" school was built in 1796 to accommodate a
girls' school. It is an imposing neoclassic building that continues to function
as a school. Today it hosts the 1st Primary school of the city.
The school is
divided in 13 classrooms from which six are on the ground floor and seven on
the second floor. The main entrance is on the north side, next to the temple of
St. Francesco.
The Turks narrowed the Venetian exterior doorframe by building a
smaller interior. They decorated it with an impressive representation of a vine
arbour, reliefs of lions and symbols of the Ottoman Empire.
