The preservation of the old urban plan and design of the old port and the architecture of numerous noteworthy buildings attribute the unique beauty and history of the old city. A mix of architecture styles evident in many city buildings indicates the influences of the present and the past- from the Venetian and the Turkish period.
In many cases, elements of the Venetian urban architecture coexist with the Turkish urban architecture. Especially evident on doorframes and balconies, different architectural elements create a juxtaposition of different historical periods.
