On the corner where the streets "P. Koroneou" and "Smyrnis"
meet, there is the temple of St. Sofia. It is a two-aisle church with a single
internal space covered by two steep vaults.
The construction of the temple (attachment of carved patterns on the
vaults) indicates a high quality of work that revealed the temple's majesty. In
about 1670, the temple was turned into the Mosque of "Yakya Ibrahim" and an
eight-meter high minaret was added, which was destroyed in the end of the 19th
century.
According to Ottoman religious traditions, a fountain was built next to the Mosque to service the needs of the believers. Today the building is restored in order to function as a cultural center.
