This is the longest route, offering a tour across Rethymno's historical center from its east to its west side, crossing monuments, museums, streets and passages that revive images of the past.
Starting from the important street "Arcadiou" (known as "Sabbionara" during the Venetian period) you will visit the Mosque of Kara Mousha Pasha, built over a Venetian monastery, dedicated to St. Barbara. A bit further, you will see the "Pattakou Hani" (Pattakos Inn), a Venetian building complex whose renaissance front is preserved. Continuing on the same street, it is worth noticing the front of an impressive building, the Drandaki House, which is a characteristic sample of Venetian architecture. Leaving the "Arcadiou" street you will enter the street "Tsouderon" and start crossing the west side of the city. On the street "Tsouderon" 12 you can enjoy another beautiful doorframe before you walk a part of the "small market" on the way to the temple of St. Francesco and the "Turkish" School. The plateau of the 1st primary school provides a pleasant environment surrounded by monuments, ideal to take a short break and rest. Next, you can move on to the street "Vernados", a picturesque small street where you can visit important monuments and museums of the city: the Mosque of Gazi Housein or "Neratzes" with its impressive doorframe and its imposing minaret; the Historical and Folklore Museum; and the noteworthy doorframe on the street number 30. An alley is formed at the crossway of the streets "N. Fokas" and "P. Koroneou", where the Holy Temple of Mary Magdalene stands. Walking towards the west on the street "P. Koroneou" you will encounter one of the 10 fountains of the Historical center, and another Mosque next it, the Mosque of Ibrahim. At the end of the street you will end up to the plateau of the "Heroes of the Polytechnic School" where a neoclassic building is located, accommodating the prefecture's administrative services.
