According to Venetian documents, the first building located
right after the east entrance of the fortress is an armory. It was built in
about 1580-1581, when Bernando Pollani was a Rector.
It is a two-floor
building, divided by a wooden floor. The "heavy" weaponry (such as canons) was
stored on the ground floors, while smaller weapons was stored on the second
floor. On its main side it has four arced openings where two plates are placed,
probably bearing some sort of a relief emblem, which is now destroyed.
The
building has been restored by the 28th Byzantine Antiquities Conservancy and is
used for periodic exhibitions.
