Northwest from the fortress the bastion of St. Lucas was built. Its purpose was to protect the city and the fortress from enemies attacking from the hills south from the city. It consists of two oblong spaces supporting a large quantity of backfilling.
The east space has two large arced openings and a third
smaller, leading to the west space. A large canted level led to the chambers of
these two spaces, used as a "plateau".
There, canons were stored, used to
confront the enemies coming from the opposite hill. The two spaces of the bastion were probably
used for the accommodation of soldiers. Today the bastion is restored from the 28th
Byzantine Antiquities Conservancy and is used for cultural activities.
